The Social Services Department is charged with the responsibility for helping older people, people with mental health problems, those with learning disabilities or physical disabilities and those with sensory impairments. The needs of carers are also taken into account in arranging support services. Children and their families can receive support, help with day care provision and foster care provision. Young people in trouble will be supported when their lives are most difficult.

The Department also provides residential care for those who need it as well as home care and information on how to find childminders and day nurseries. Staff from the Department help register and measure the quality of these resources.

If you need our help it's best to contact us in person or by telephone. If you wish to see someone you can call in to Jubilee House or the offices in Union Street in Darwen. However due to demands on our services (in emergencies) you might find it easier to phone and ask for an appointment. The number for Jubilee House is 01254 587547, at Darwen it is 01254 222113, ask to speak to the service advisor and they will give you an appointment.

We are also able to help outside of our normal office hours (8-45am - 5-00pm). If you need some help which cannot wait until our offices are open please telephone 01254 587547.

When you come to see us someone will take down your details and we will try to help. Some things can be done quickly. More complicated problems will be looked at by a Social Worker who will carry out an assessment, this may be done in your own home. We will write to you to to say if you qualify for a particular service.
