The Social Services Department is charged with the responsibility for helping older people, people with mental health problems,
those with learning disabilities or physical disabilities and those with sensory impairments. The needs of carers are also
taken into account in arranging support services. Children and their families can receive support, help with day care provision
and foster care provision. Young people in trouble will be supported when their lives are most difficult.
The Department also provides residential care for those who need it as well as home care and information on how to find
childminders and day nurseries. Staff from the Department help register and measure the quality of these resources.
